Shape.Repeat.

Instead of cutting out patterns, natural liquid material is molded into a two-dimensional shape. Once the material dries, the tailored pieces are ready for assembly.
The fashion industry produces approximately 60 billion square meters of textile waste every year. With this method, no extra clippings are made, and you can measure out the exact amount of material you need.
This method challenges us to rethink our current clothing manufacturing methods. It proposes a technique that eliminates excess scraps and synthetic materials.

	Valdís Steinars x 66°North

What does the raincoat of the future look like?Valdís Steinarsdóttir has been researching new ways of manufacturing clothing. She uses a two-dimensional mold to shape the clothing with natural liquid material. Now, Valdís and 66°North have joined forces to make the coat of the future. It is important to constantly re-evaluate how we do things. This project proposes a method for making clothes that challenges us to pause and rethink our current clothing manufacturing practices. It proposes a technique that eliminates excess scraps, so that just the exact amount of material is used for each garment. Instead of cutting out patterns and sewing, natural liquid material is molded into a two-dimensional shape. So you would rather measure garments in milliliters than in meters.

	Just Bones
Just Bones focuses on developing a strong, natural material from animal bones. The bones are ground, and their various qualities are used to develop a material with a strength similar to that of MDF. Just Bones is an example of how various opportunities are hidden in our immediate environment. By exploring familiar materials from different perspectives, new opportunities for utilisation can be found.

	Bioplastic Skin

Bioplastic Skin is a biodegradable meat packaging made from animal hides. If we choose to consume animals, we must take responsibility for using them fully and with minimal environmental harm. The project also confronts society’s dependence on disposable plastics, particularly within food systems. As meat consumption and plastic pollution approach critical thresholds, Bioplastic Skin invites urgent reflection on our consumer habits and opens a space for debate around more responsible, circular practices.

	Horsehair Project
In Iceland, we have a special relationship with horses, as they are simultaneously loved pets on one hand and food on the other. Although horsehides are suitable for both leather and fur production, they are rarely utilized or tanned in Iceland and are mostly considered a byproduct.Icelandic horses are not subjected to factory farming as many other animals are.

	ERM x 66°North
The project ERM explores how the life cycle of a product can be extended by moving beyond its original role. How can a puffy coat become a chair? And can it become something else after that?
The project examines how product categorization can serve as a starting point rather than a restriction when designing innovative solutions for discarded products.
